Week 2 Thursday and Friday

On Thursday we had another hard days work in the school. After a sleepy start at 6:30am, we taught our classes in pairs and created some new bonds with the students.  This was followed by a successful afternoon, where we completed our construction work.  We wrote our names into the end of the concrete path, marking our final impact on the school and the children's lives.  Having worked hard to ensure our tasks were completed, we ate a well deserved meal at the Blue Pumpkin cafe.  Our day ended on a high after a beautiful walk along the riverside and a shopping spree in a local night market.
Friday was marked by tearful farewells as we played with and talked to the students for the last time.  We attempted to teach lessons but after ten minutes we all ended up outside enjoying games such as Splat.  For the rest of the morning we signed books, shirts and arms, took selfies with the students and danced to music with them.  Eventually we had to say goodbye.  There were tears, hugs and piggyback races.  We were all moved by the impact we had made on the students in such a short period of time.  In the afternoon we met some inspirational members of Girlguiding Cambodia including survivors of the Khmer Rouge and Princess of Cambodia who was the first Cambodian woman to fly a plane.  Our day ended with a group meal involving many members of Girlguiding Cambodia, new and old.  We communicated with them in various ways, some with the help of translators, sharing our fondest memories of our time in Girlguiding.

  2. Hi Olivia

My name is Alison and I work with your mum. I just want to say that it is so commendable what you are doing and I wish we had the chance of such an experience at your age (as your mum will tell you, we lived in such different times so long ago J). It looks like you’re having a whale of a time and making the most of the rain when it comes!!!

Enjoy the rest of your time there and make as many lasting memories as possible JJJ

    Safe journey home
    Alison
